Default shape of polygon/star
I get the default shape as a star. I guess that depending on the previous state of Inkscape, the initial values could be different. By clicking on the polygon or star button on the top left corner, I found out that I can choose the shape that I want.

Scroll button is not present
To zoom, you suggest the use of scroll wheel. Unfortunately, as I am using a Mac OS X system, I do not have a conventional mouse and hence there is no wheel either. Should I use Shift + and Shift - instead?
