A workshop on 'Introduction to LaTeX' was organised at IIT Gandhinagar by Team LaTeX. This was conducted with the assistance of Spoken Tutorials, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and the content for the workshop was derived from the same. The primary aim of this workshop was to introduce the student community to some very basic features of LaTeX and how it can be used to reduce both time and effort in the documents they need to prepare for academic or non-academic reasons. Additionally, we had a motive of promoting open source software within our institute and we thought of starting with LaTeX as our first step in this journey.
Spoken Tutorial courses are simple and short. Though these courses are complete they are concise. Honestly, these courses are a revolution in education. I recommend that educationists should take note of these courses and implement similar systems.
... really like how this project helps us to learn at our own pace. We organised an event in our college named SAKEC-ST in which, we offered around 7 FOSS categories and every student took part in 2-3 FOSS workshops. This event was a big hit. Students actually learnt a lot of things which weren't covered in the syllabus and also got a certificate.
I am really grateful that I got an opportunity to speak about my experience with Spoken Tutorial, IIT Bombay. I came to know about this event by my Professor Namrata Manglani and we both applied for the course and we really like how this program is we can learn at our pace and later we can apply for online test and we cleared too.
We really found this event helpful so we decided to bring this event in our college (SHAH AND ANCHOR KUTCHHI ENGNERRING COLLEGE) and with the help of Swapnil More and Namrata Manglani this event was brought named SAKEC-ST.In our college we brought around 7 FOSS (Free Open Source Software) and every student took part in 2-3 more FOSS. This event a was hit students actually learned a lot of things which weren't covered in the syllabus and also got an certificate.
Being an workshop manager for Spoken Tutorial, IIT Bombay it really enhanced by skills in technologies, communication skills, group handling. And later after completion of event I was awarded with Workshop manager certificate. This certificate really helped me to get admission in George Brown College in Canada and we are planning conduct here too . Also the skills and knowledge learned from Spoken Tutorial, IIT Bombay helped me to get a job in WIPRO TECHNOLOGIES.
This is really great Platform for students and teachers who can gain their knowledge and learn. I will continue this event once I return back to all over India. Happy to be a part of Spoken Tutorial, IIT Bombay.
I feel privileged to be the part of your FOSS team in organizing the workshops and online tests. The effort that you people have put in to build the whole FOSS is overwhelming. The course-ware is organized so very simple that even First Degree students from remote places can understand and implement it. Online tests were also structured excellently well.

Online tests were also structured excellently well. Providing Certificates for the performers is a good motivational factor for the students to get involved in more and more workshops.
I extend my special word of thanks to all the members of the team especially Ms.Reshmi, Ms.Anu, Mr.Anandraj who were always available round the clock to help me out in the execution of 11 workshops and 11 online tests for almost 200 students so far.
I wish I continue to be the part of your team in executing much more workshops and online tests and support your vision and mission.
spoken tutorial is a very convenient way to learn free and open source software. Anyone can access the complete coarse on their website free of cost without any registration. This project also organizes SELF workshop for students, Teaching and non-teaching staff of school-colleges ...
We can see that in country like USA, Canada and Britain, Open Document is a Mandatory standard. But in a country like India there is nothing specified and significant amount of capital of public is going to the pocket of big corporate like Microsoft, even if equally powerful alternative is available at no cost at all.
People are not aware of Free and Open Source Software alternatives of proprietary software. Even when they know that there is an alternative available, they hesitate to change. Those who feel hesitation can take “Spoken-Tutorial” developed by IIT Bombay on LibreOffice as a tool to learn how to use LIbreOffice.
For medium scale industries and Educational Institution, Spoken-Tutorial is very useful. Staff who is working on MS-Office can learn about LIbreOffice, and save a lot of money in purchasing the license of MS-Office.

The best part was the spoken tutorials helped them get ready with the installation, interface and utilities of Blender before the physical workshop in the IGNOU campus.
The workshop as informed to you earlier over phone was really successful. By the end of four days, the participants were very happy and confident in developing 3D animation. Earlier they were using licensed products which did not actually fulfill our requirements of 3D animation. Added to that they were also introduced to interactive game development using Blender.

Spoken tutorials were really useful as the participants could use them time and again as reference material even when the physical workshop was on. We are very happy with the workshop and looking forward to an advanced level workshop.
